21035 Spring Cove Rd, Rock Hall, MD 21661 - Sailing: We have secured 4 sailboats for the day. Each captain has been gracious enough to offer their personal boats for the cadets to enjoy. The primary purpose of the sailing experience is to have fun, build camaraderie and teach basic sailing and seamanship skills. We need to keep the cadet numbers below 28 to ensure we have enough space on the boats.
- We will plan on doing a safety brief around 8:45am on Saturday. The safety brief will be required for anyone boarding a vessel for the day, so it will be important for all cadets and adults to be present. Based on the weather forecast, the boat skippers will decide on a plan for the day. Weather is always a factor in sailing, especially taking inexperienced people out on the water. The boat skippers will have a go / no-go brief Friday evening (9/6) based on Saturday’s weather forecasts. We will contact Sam Elliott if we need to cancel due to weather.
- Our plan is to depart the marina around 9:15-9:30am. All 4 boats will get underway together with a plan to meet for lunch at a predetermined destination. Once we arrive at the destination, boats will raft up and anchor for a time of eating lunch, hanging out and swimming. After lunch, we will sail back to the marina with an estimated arrival time of 5pm.
- Below are the high-level sailing concepts & seamanship skills we will teach:
• Boat Anatomy
• Points of Sail
• Tacking & Jibing
• Simple Rules of the Road
• Knots
• Types of Sailing Yachts
• Basic Navigation
• Departure / Return Procedures - Meals: unit will provide Wawa lunches for Saturday. We will eat lunch on the boats, so please keep it simple. Water is the preferred drink to minimize spillage cleanup. For dinner, we will have access to a propane grill and seating area at the marina, so bring the appropriate number of plates, utensils, cups, food, and drinks to feed the group. We will plan on having dinner around 6-6:30pm on Saturday evening. It’s probably a good idea to bring some camping chairs, so we have plenty of seating.
- Sleepover: The marina owner (Madelyn Reni) has granted us permission to have the cadets pitch their tents Saturday evening. We will select an area on the property for camping once the cadets arrive. There are bathroom and shower facilities close to the camping area.
- Marina Activities: In addition to sailing, the marina has a pool and large lawn area for games such as corn hole and spike ball. Feel free to bring additional games.
- What to Wear: No black sole sneakers or hard sole shoes. Clothing should be dependent on the weather - could be hot or chilly. Bring towel for swimming.

- What was it like to leave the military - or go in/out from active duty? How is reserves different?
When did we start thinking about post-military life? When SHOULD we have thought about it?
How is reserves/ active duty mindset different?
Why did we start a business?
What was that like to start a business? What were common fears?
What are the main challenges? Mentally? - Where did we have to grow as leaders and business people?
How is leading in a business environment same/different than in the military?
How did starting a business help us grow as leaders/ and stretch us?
How did being in the military help us in business?
What did we think is the hardest part of starting a business?
